Are You Oke?

I’m using the down time of post-World Fair Trade Day events to catch up on some reading, and I see the crew at Oke bananas have launched a new website. With their usual paradigm-busting thinking and quirky humor, these tireless advocates for justice and purveyors of tasty bananas offer readers an introduction into the world of Fair Trade farmer ownership. They also have posted fun brand builders such as a t-shirt logo that looks a lot like a transformed logo of a certain shoe company swoosh. Maybe it is like a Rorschach test nudging us to consider what’s okay and what’s not okay about the way business is done in our world.

Of course, when it comes to building long term partnerships and equitable trade relationships, it is not all tongue-in-cheek humor. Recently banana farmers in Ecuador endured devastating floods and now need support in buying equipment to drain the flooded farms and do preventative maintenance to mitigate the impact of future floods. Check the info out to help the recovering farm communities be more than just okay.
