Coffee Partners Make the News- how good companies do good business

As the year draws to a close and everyone starts thinking about the new and wonderful things they plan to accomplish for 2008, I think it’s important to remember the wonderful things accomplished in the past. So much of what we’re able to accomplish through the CRS Fair Trade program is with the help of our partners. Our partners are not only instruments through which individuals’ actions positively affect the lives of artisans and farmers overseas, but they are also social pioneers and examples of how good business can be done. So while we’re always singing their praises, it’s great to see the recognition they’ve been getting for all the work they do and the way they do that work.

Check out the following stories about two of our coffee partners, Pura Vida and Equal Exchange, and how they’ve become examples for other socially-minded companies.

Pura Vida in The New York Times - how they remain profitable without sacrificing their mission

Equal Exchange named one of ten to receive “Social Capitalist” Award from Fast Company Magazine

We’re happy to be heading into 2008 with all of our partners! Happy New Year to all!

Hooray for our partners! And as I look through the Fast Company issue Katy mentions, I see that our allies at Root Capital, which provides much needed financing for many Fair Traders, and TransFair USA, the independent 3rd party certifier of many products, are also recognized. Clearly Fair Traders are making positive business impacts that more conventional companies can learn from moving into ‘08
