Fair Trade and more in Spanish ~ Comercio Justo y mas en espanol

One of the things that keeps getting better and better about my job as a Fair Trade educator is that more and more consumers are aware of Fair Trade. TransFair USA, for example, reports at least 20% of all U.S. coffee drinkers are aware of the Fair Trade label. As a part of the growing Fair Trade movement, the CRS Economic Justice team provides a variety of ways to help U.S. Catholics promote global solidarity. A new initiative within Catholic Relief Services itself is especially designed to reach out and engage U.S. Hispanics, the fastest-growing ethnic group in the United States and 39% of the U.S. Catholic Church.

The newly unveiled CRS Spanish-language website helps CRS more effectively interact with U.S. Hispanics. Our colleague Lydia Dibos, a big Fair Trade supporter and former member of the Fair Trade Fund committee says, “The new website will allow U.S. Hispanics to learn more about CRS’ work in their home countries and how they can help our efforts to empower citizens on a local level around the world.”

The CRS’ Spanish-language site contains informative articles on the agency’s outreach initiatives in Latin America and across the globe and currently has a feature article about our work empowering women owned coffee cooperatives in Nicaragua.

The site also lists activities that people can participate in from the United States to make a difference in the lives of others, such as the CRS Fair Trade network. You can also get to know some of the Latino employees at CRS, including Mari Barboza, a dedicated Fair Trade advocate based in our Northeast offices.

If you are a Spanish speaker, like Mari, or a Spanish learner, like me, visit the new website for resources to help you pray, learn, act and give! Bienvendio a CRS en espanol!
