Fair Trade Month is Just Days Away!

One of the best parts of a social justice movement is when you take time to sit back, reflect on your efforts, and CELEBRATE the successes. October, deemed Fair Trade month by TransFair, the U.S. third party certifier of Fair Trade products, gives you 31 opportunities to do just that. There are a variety of resources to help you participate.

For us at CRS Fair Trade the fun begins on September 30, when Fair Trade Los Angeles hosts Just Lives, a day-long kick off festival at the Hollywood Farmers Market (who says Fair Traders aren’t hip?). I’ll be there, back just in time to share stories from a week in Nicaragua with members of Cooperative Coffees and CRS Nicaragua staff. There will also be live music performances and, of course, opportunities to shop in ways that support Fair Trade, Sweatshop Free companies, and local economies.

CRS Fair Trade is proud to support the Festival through our Fair Trade Fund. There are lots of other events we’ll be involved in through October so check back soon. Also, be sure to let us know what you are planning–maybe a Fair Trade chocolate sale or a coffee tasting–by posting a comment.

   Jackie, when you are in LA, be sure to look for Bart Morse leading a crew of folks wearing Fair Trade Sports tee shirts, selling our Fair Trade soccer balls (and footballs, etc).
