Holiday season shines spotlight on Fair Trade

There is no doubt that the weeks leading up to Christmas are a busy time for Fair Traders. By planning Work of Human Hands sales, getting the word out about chocolate as a special gift, and coffee as a way to stay warm, CRS Fair Trade staff, Ambassadors, and supporters are spreading the good cheer of Fair Trade.

The media has taken special interest in all these good works, helping us spotlight efforts across the country:

* The Loquitur, Cabrini College’s student newspaper, did an article on a Fair Trade Coffee Taste testing organized on that Pennsylvania campus by Fair Trade Ambassadors. The Loquitur just received the honor of being named the number one non-daily college newspaper in the country.

* A little farther south, Ambassadors in the Atlanta area were the subject of a Georgia Bulletin article. I grew up in Atlanta, but knew nothing of Fair Trade way back when, so it is particularly fun for me to see the movement blossom, thanks in many ways to the Southeast regional staff.

* Way out West, many denominations are thinking about and acting on Fair Trade. Check out this local feature story to get ideas on bringing Fair Trade into your local community.
