Isn’t it Time We Made the World Fair?

That’s the slogan for this year’s World Fair Trade Day. As a proud sponsor of World Fair Trade Day here in the United States, CRS Fair Trade is proud to support the activities large and small to make the world a bit fairer through participating in economic justice activities.

On the fun side, we are gearing up to participate in the World’s Largest Fair Trade Coffee break at 3:00 Eastern Time on May 10. Participating is easy, so visit the Fair Trade Resource Network to learn how and order a resource packet. Also check this blog for updates from some of the other events CRS is participating in, such as the Chicago Fair Trade Coalition celebration and the San Diego Friends of Fair Trade seminar.

Sounds like a great idea. I’ll be reading up to see what Peoria Notre Dame can do to help.

    Hello All!
Just a thought for parishes interested in participating in World Fair Trade Day ~ prior to Saturday evening mass, folks could gather to host their own World Fair Trade Day event such as a Fair Trade Coffee Hour. It would be great if folks could gather at the same time as the World-wide coffee break (trying to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records) at 3pm, but if not, it’s still good to get together and spread the world about Fair Trade. Materials and other resources could be shared with attendees as well as Fair Trade chocolate. Of course this gathering, if done before 4pm, would allow parishioners to prepare for mass properly.
    Hope everyone gets involved!
    Best wishes, Candice Harris

Pastoral Center-Diocese of Rochester will host a CRS Fair Trade coffee break on Wednesday, May 14, during the regular monthly all-ministries staff meeting. Four stations will be set up with four different grinds. We will have postcards for Diocesan staff to sign up for the Fair Trade network.

Catholic Charities agency in Chemung County (southern part of our Diocese) will host a Work of Human Hands sale on Wednesday, May 7 from 9AM-4PM and will offer CRS Fair Trade coffee for tasting. This coincides with a Diocesan-wide tele-training on the pastoral, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. Catholic Charities will be a tele-training site for local parish staffs and social ministry leaders and will link for those present, the WOHH sale to the teaching on Global Solidarity in the pastoral.

We are encouraging the Community Kitchen in Elmira, NY (free meals) to publicize the fact that they serve CRS Fair Trade coffee at all their meals!
